If you use Adobe Premiere on a Mac in the office, but would still like to use custom keybindings while on a StratusCore Virtual Workstation, you can create a separate custom keybinding set and upload it to your Creative Cloud account. With Creative Cloud, you can have multiple custom keybindings and workspaces saved to your Creative Cloud account.
Due to a limitation within Adobe Premiere, no matter if its a local work environment or a virtual one, Mac keybindings created on a Mac cannot be transferred to a PC. This is very easily solved by creating a Virtual Workstation keybindings set, saving it, and syncing it to your Creative Cloud account.
Log into the StratusCore platform, and start a Virtual Workstation session, making sure to select Adobe Premiere as an application.
Quick Start - Start a Virtual Workstation. A Visual Guide
Understanding the Choose Your Software button, Step #4
1) After the Virtual Workstation has completed loading, locate the "Adobe Premiere" icon on the desktop. LMB double click on the Premiere icon to start Premiere.
2) Adobe Premiere will begin to load. Sign into Adobe Creative Cloud.
3) Adobe Premiere will continue to open. "Welcome to Premiere" splash screen will appear.
DO NOT CLOSE THE SPLASH SCREEN.
Click "Sync Settings" on the left, and then options will appear, click "Sync Settings Now"
4) You will see the progress screen appear. This process can take anywhere from 30 seconds to several minutes depending on what settings you have saved to Creative Cloud.
5) Once you are sync'd with Adobe, click the [New Project] button on the left. You MUST have a project open to map NEW keybindings or create a new workspace.
PLEASE NOTE: Between the Mac and PC, the process of creating new keybindings within Adobe Premiere is slightly different.
6) Inside Adobe Premiere, once a project is open, LMB click
Edit -> Keyboard Shortcuts
the Keyboard Shortcuts window will open.
1 - Using the Search bar, type the name of the Premiere command you would like to edit.
2 - use the LMB to click in the "Shortcut" column to highlight the shortcut.
3 - using YOUR keyboard, push the keys you want associated with the command.
4 - the keys will appear in the blue Shortcut box
IMPORTANT: SAVE YOUR KEYBINDINGS
7) Once you have completed assigning keybindings to commands, LMB click the [Save As...] button on the top of the window.
8) Keyboard Layout Set window will open. Name your Keyboard Layout.
Please Note: Use distinct, best practice naming conventions.
Please refrain from using names such as: "My Keys" or "Fast Keys" etc.
Please use names such as: "MikeJones-Editing1" or "MikeJones-VirtualWorkstationKeys"
LMB click [OK], and then LMB click [OK] to exit "Keyboard Shortcuts"
9) At this point, you may also want to arrange your Premiere workspace and save the workspace configuration. Again, please use distinct, best practice naming conventions for your workspace.
Setting up to RE- Sync with Adobe Creative Cloud
10) LMB click "Edit" on the top toolbar within the Premiere workspace.
Edit -> Preferences -> Sync Settings
11) The Preferences window will open.
1 - Make sure Preferences/Settings, Workspace Layouts, and Keyboard Shortcuts are checked
2 - choose ALWAYS UPLOAD SETTINGS in the "When syncing" pulldown.
3 - click [OK]
For the purpose of this sync, we want to upload the new keybindings and workspaces we created AND SAVED. Please make sure you have saved your settings. This is very important.
12) Once you are sure your new keybindings are saved (and your workspace, if you chose to create a new workspace for StratusCore Virtual Workstation) you can now sync with Adobe Creative Cloud.
13) Begin the sync
1 - LMB click File
2 - within the menu find YOUR Adobe login email/name
3 - LMB click "Sync Settings Now"
14) You will see the progress screen appear. This process can take anywhere from 30 seconds to several minutes depending on what settings you are saving to Creative Cloud.
15) Unfortunately there is no immediate user feedback within Premiere from Adobe Creative Cloud to verify a successful upload. After the sync upload, you can change back your sync preferences to allow you to choose a sync for your next login.
1 - LMB click "Edit" on the top toolbar within the Premiere workspace.
Edit -> Preferences -> Sync Settings
2 - choose ASK MY PREFERENCE in the "When syncing" pulldown.
3 - click [OK]
And thats it! You are sync'd with Creative Cloud.
