You've decided to try using a Virtual Workstation, now what?
There are multiple ways to test a Virtual Workstation. You can use a Virtual Workstation pre-configured with Blender, OR you can try Virtual Workstation using software such as Maya, 3DS-Max, or After Effects.
*NOTE: Running a trial of Virtual Workstation with Maya or 3DS-Max REQUIRES you to have a valid Autodesk login. (either a trial login or an account login)
* To trial Virtual Workstation with an Adobe product, you are REQUIRED to have a valid Adobe login. (either a trial login or an account login)
To use a StratusCore Virtual Workstation, you must first start the free trial.
Click on the [Virtual Workstation] tab on the left nav bar, or if you have already landed on the Virtual Workstation page, Click [Start a Free Trial].
After clicking on the [Start a Free Trial] button, the page will refresh, and the "Virtual Studio Trial" page should appear.
The "Virtual Studio Trial" page displays:
1) Your remaining free trial time
2) Software to be loaded onto your Virtual Workstation.
3) [+Add Software] button
If you just want to dive in, and try a Virtual Workstation with Blender, please click here to skip down to "START MY VIRTUAL WORKSTATION NOW" and follow the instructions.
*NOTE: If at any time you have a question, please do not hesitate to click the blue [? Support] button. The support button appears on the bottom right of browser window.
If you would like to try Virtual Workstation with Maya, 3DS Max, or After Effects, you'll need to "add" that software to your Virtual Workstation.
Adding additional software to try is easy!
Click [+ Add Software]
You will be redirected to the "Software Marketplace". (Don't worry, if you're on a Virtual Workstation free trial, you will not be prompted to pay for Virtual Workstation usage.) Below the tab you should see a variety of available software titles to try on the Virtual Workstation. Blender and Gimp are provided as default.
To choose software, simply click on a software package. After choosing software, for example I have chosen Maya 2018, you will be prompted to agree that you need to log into the software providers login prompt via Virtual Workstation. Please make sure to agree to log-in or the software will not be loaded onto your Virtual Workstation.
After you agree to log-in to the software provider, a confirmation will appear.
When you are done adding software to your Virtual Workstation, click on the [Virtual Workstation] button on the left nav bar.
After clicking on the [Virtual Workstation] button, you will be directed to the "Virtual Studio Trial" page. "Software on Your Workstation" should list the software you previously chose.
*START MY VIRTUAL WORKSTATION NOW
If you are ready to start the Virtual Workstation, click on the [Start] button
Start a Workstation Session appears. On this screen, you are asked to confirm software to be loaded onto your Virtual Workstation.
1) Click on the software you want to try. (Make sure the check mark ✔ appears after clicking)
2) Review your selection(s)
3) Clear your selections and choose different software if you change your mind.
4) Save your selection **OPTIONAL**
5) If you're ready, click [Start Session]
If you have never used a StratusCore Virtual Workstation, you will need to download and INSTALL our app. The app allows the Virtual Workstation to run on your own computer.
*DOWNLOAD THE APP
Different browsers such as IE or Chrome may allow you to "run" the application as it is being downloaded. Browsers such as Firefox, and WaterFox will only prompt you to save the file.
The *best way to install our application is to SAVE the app to your hard drive, AND THEN install the app.
Click [Next] after you have completed the installation of the StratusCore Virtual Workstation app.
Again, depending on your browser you may or may not be prompted with an "Are you Sure" box reminding you to install the Virtual Workstation app.
*PREPARE YOUR SESSION KEY popup window
The Prepare your session key popup allows you to obtain a session key to run Virtual Workstation.
1) Sidebar enables navigation through the launch process. You can click on previous steps if you need to start the process again.
2) Links back to "Step 1" to download the StratusCore Virtual Workstation app.

When you are sure you have installed the StratusCore Virtual Workstation app and you are ready to obtain a "key" file, click on the [Prepare Session] button.
After you click [Prepare Session], "Preparing your workstation session" popup will open with a counter to show progress.
After a few seconds, a file dialog box will open asking you to "Open with" or "Save File". PLEASE SAVE THE KEY FILE to your hard drive.
After saving the file to your hard drive, browse to the file location, and double click the key file.
The key file will generally be named "virtual_workstation_key_" followed by numbers, with an ".svw" extension.
The client window will open, and begin the connection.
Once the client is open, you will see the StratusCore Virtual Workstation window appear. The window may open fullscreen. You can switch from fullscreen to windowed by clicking "View" on the top toolbar, "Leave Fullscreen".
The StratusCore Virtual Workstation window functions as a normal Windows desktop.
You are now connected to the StratusCore Virtual Workstation!
